A Great Banjolele At A Great Price
I've wanted a banjolele for a long time, but, already owning several ukuleles, I couldn't really justify spending a lot on one, so I started researching the budget end of the market.Unsurprisingly in these depths it's usually a case of "here be monsters", but a couple of models kept surfacing as potentially decent, and the Aklot Banjolele was one of them. I found out as much as I could, and the positive buzz around this model eventually gave me the confidence to take the plunge into the terrifying waters of cheap online instrument buying.I needn't have worried. It has the fit and finish expected of a much more expensive instrument. A proper Remo drumhead, geared tuners, front and side position markers - no rough frets, splinters or wood splits here.I was dubious about the maple fretboard as I've only ever used rosewood, but it's incredibly smooth and a real pleasure to fret - when you add in the width of the nicely shaped neck, and the ultra low action (how high the strings sit) this is the most comfortable and easy to play ukulele (of any kind) that I've ever picked up - it would be absolutely perfect for a beginner.Something that made me procrastinate for a long time about buying a banjolele was that I'd have to set the bridge up myself. Although I've been playing for a few years I've never messed around with the set up of a uke; I've never even changed any strings on my own before, so a floating banjo bridge was daunting. This turned out to be much easier than expected; the plastic installation guide included in this set was great, and took all of the uncertainty out of it. Everything was in place and ready to play within a few minutes.I've seen some video reviews where this model had a cool looking metal hand plate attached to the pot, which is not seen in the photos of this Amazon listing, so if anyone was wondering, mine did come with the metal plate.Although it did come with a strap, I've not had any cause to use it. While a banjolele is obviously a lot heavier than a traditional uke with all that metal, I've found this one to be very nicely balanced and extremely comfortable and secure to play standing up without a strap - something I've always found difficult with my other ukes. The tuner it comes with is perfectly decent, it's one more thing you won't have to spend extra on, so you really can start playing right out of the box. The gig bag is fine for storing your uke around the house, but I would definitely look into a padded or solid case if you're going to be travelling with it.Downsides. There was one, one wobbly tuning peg, but this isn't going to affect my 5 star rating. Why not? Because a small fault like this could easily be present on a much more expensive uke; the otherwise solid and quality finish of the Aklot doesn't suggest sloppiness in their building process, and no other reviews online have mentioned this problem. I have the same, or uncannily similar, tuners on my other concert ukulele and they've always been fine. so I think it's an unfortunate anomaly and just "one of those things".Aklot were true to their word, and the customer service to find a solution to the issue was excellent. They were quick to respond, pleasant, and we got the peg replaced at no extra cost to me.I love this banjolele, it's been addictive and so much fun to play, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. I don't think it's possible to find better value for money in the budget banjolele market, and Aklot deserve to be a well known brand.

Plays nicely with smooth-action neck and a good 'Banjo' George Formby sound.
This is a good musical instrument for novice or long-time player of eg, guitars or similar who might want to try this very compact little player. I have only received this approx' 8 hours ago, so this is an early description: The Uke' came with all advertised parts, an electronic tuner (it works correctly) included, and as nylon strings will stretch a bit for a while, constant tuning is a must. The Chinese makers suggest their system for setting the neck is a 'truss rod adjuster' well, it's a matter of opinion, but there's certainly no truss- rod built into the neck! The advert for the Uke' states that the string height is 3mm at the twelfth fret; well, my Uke' arrived, out of the box, 6mm at the 12th! --With the so-called 'truss adjuster' I attempted to alter the neck angle to lower the strings--to no avail! --I finally put a wooden shim between the neck and resonator---this took quite some time to get right, and I contoured the shim to the board. Note: you need to loosen the strings off when doing all this. So; I think it's a good little player: Maple body and neck, good quality tuners, lovely smooth can't tell it's there fret wire, (wire separating the frets) You just can't complain as it's a good package. FOOTNOTE: I have now found that the so-called 'Truss rod' adjuster seems to alter the string length, causing the Uke' to play out of tune if set wrongly--I initially took a measurement of the visible thread length with a vernier caliper and then unfortunately lost that when checking the string height! I have now removed the before-mentioned shim as the neck is more solid at it's connection without it, and the string height is now 4.30 mm. I think this is ok really. So! --be careful messing with the 'Truss Rod' !!! FURTHER NOTES: I have finally made a bridge, using a fret-saw and small rebate plane and simulated the original one, but made it of a less height--this I shaved down to where I wanted the height to be. The action is now correct for me. So, to sum up: Delightful player with superior sound quality.

Great Package
I am surprisingly impressed with the extras supplied with this banjolele, it even came with a piezo pickup, plectrums including felt ones, gig bag, strap & tuner. The banjolele looks lovely, nice remo head, geared tuning pegs. The only thing that lets it down are the cheap nasty strings, however, this is not a problem as I will restring it.Well done AKLOT a really affordable surprising quality instrument.

Good for beginners
I'm a beginner to the banjo so if you're looking for a technical rundown of the instrument then I'm sorry I cannot help. From my perspective however, the banjo plays well. A couple of things, you'll have to learn how to set the bridge for the strings yourself as it arrives flat to avoid damage during delivery, and it'll take a few rounds of tuning before the strings get used to being stretched. You get what you pay for, it's not amazing but it's a good looking and sounding instrument overall if not a but rough around the edges.Regarding the things it comes with, everything advertised arrived with the banjo. The finger picks aren't great, the edges have been cut terribly and aren't smooth, which can make a rasping sound as you pluck the strings, and for me at least the thumb pick was way too long, I ended up buying a dozen resin picks for a fiver instead and they work great. The strap is horrible aesthetically but functions as it should and if you want to attach it there are clips to do so, there's a tuner too but I find myself just using an online tuner for convenience.Overall I'm pretty satisfied, good place to start if you've never played before or are looking for a cheap replacement. It's open backed so it's primarily used for clawhammer banjo but can play bluegrass as well.

Very good value for the money
Good fit and finish for a super low price. The setup was acceptable, so the instrument could be played without any adjustments, which is not always the case with cheap ukuleles. The strings went straight into the bin since I did not like the feel nor the sound they made. Replaced them with inexpensive black nylon strings, which improved the sound. The fretboard was edge bound with what seems to be ABS plastic. This was great, since it made it easy to file off a few somewhat sharp fret ends without worrying about filing through paint finish and destroying the looks. The tuners were all metal and seemed quite OK.The sound is exactly what I want from a bajolele, which might not be for everyone :-) But it sounds like a banjolele should sound. My only gripe is that the fretboard dots are screen printed rather than inlayed. But I guess that at this price, this is a shortcut that has to be accepted. The side dots are inlays though, which is perhaps more important.
