- Wilderness Poets - Freeze Dried Dragon Fruit Powder - 3.5 oz. (99g) Wilderness Poets Freeze Dried Dragon Fruit Powder blooming from Dr. Seuss-ical cactus trees, Pitahaya, or Dragon Fruit, is a bright fuchsia conical wonder to the eyes and taste buds! Indigenous to Costa Rica (its white-fleshed cousin native to Mexico), it is an important, sustainable desert crop for both food and medicine. With unforgettable vivid magenta hues, Dragon Fruit is loaded with antioxidants, fiber, Vitamin C and B, and will have you groovin' under the sun---even on a gloomy day! Also called "Strawberry Pear", its flavor is somewhat of an earthly Willy Wonka creation with refreshing, subtle tropical notes of kiwi, strawberry, watermelon, and pear. This "Belle of the Night" blossoms under the moonlight and relies on nocturnal pollinators to continue the flow, under the glow, fruiting 5-6 times annually. About Wilderness Poets It is with great joy that they bring you delicious hand-crafted, raw and organic Nut Butters, Wild Mixes and Superfoods. Many of their products are a starting point for you to develop your own vibrant, organic, plant-based recipes. Choosing a super healthy diet sometimes seems radical to family and friends who are in a pattern of selecting processed foods and GMO goodies that are easily accessible in typical supermarkets. Learning to make healthy versions of classic favorites and tantalizing desserts using nuts, seeds and superfoods is a sure fire way to inspire others to join in this journey. They are grateful to the farmers who lovingly grow our beautiful nuts and seeds organically. Farming without the use of pesticides, herbicides and petroleum based fertilizers takes a lot more foresight, hard work, and expertise. You can taste the difference! Their Story Wilderness Poets was started by John Bannerman and Mika Kakizaki in 2006 in Portland, Oregon and is now based in Ashland, Oregon. John and Mika both enjoyed childhoods filled with wonderment. Mika grew up in New York City and was cast on Sesame Street at age five. Ironically, she starred in a JIFF Peanut Butter Commercial at age 7, but Mika was more interested in growing veggies on the rooftop of her Chinatown loft. John grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and helped his parents raise bees for honey and tap maple trees for syrup. They both shared an insatiable desire to be in the wilderness. Mika's global family (British Mom, and Japanese Dad) led her to Wales for summers working in her Aunt's vegan restaurant. John was living between a tropical farm in Kauai, Hawaii and a remote fishing village near Juneau, Alaska. After graduating from Vassar College, Mika followed her passion to learn about plants and food as medicine to an apprenticeship on the "Herb Pharm" in Williams, Oregon. John moved to Portland to complete his Masters in Teaching at Lewis & Clark College. He was teaching poetry to middle school students in Oregon when they met. Not long after, they founded Wilderness Poets. John had used ancient wilderness poets in the classroom to inspire his students. Poets have a special way of whittling things down to the bare essence. Fast forward almost a decade.... Wilderness Poets is now based in Ashland, Oregon. Their facility continues to be dedicated to the production of vegan, gluten free, raw, and organic, Superfoods. Mika and John continue to oversee each step of the process to ensure that every batch is fresh and delicious.
